How Do I Know If I Have a Salmonella Infection?

Only a doctor can make a diagnosis of a Salmonella infection. If you have eaten at La Mex and have become sick, urgent medical attention is recommended. Also, early medical treatment can greatly reduce the risk for long-term complications, like the potential development of reactive arthritis.

It is best not to panic, but it is a good idea to monitor your health and symptoms in the days after eating at La Mex.

The Outbreak

The Grundy County Health Department issued a public notice that it is investigating a cluster of individuals with documented Salmonella potentially linked to a Morris, Illinois restaurant. The health agency identified at least eight Salmonella cases in Grundy County that appear to be linked to the same restaurant located La Mex 115 E. Jackson Street in Morris, Illinois.

There is speculation that this outbreak may have a multi-state component or source, as officials from the FDA, CDC, and local health partners are investigating this outbreak.

"Candess & Jory were extremely valuable resources for me when I contracted food poisoning. They guided me through every step of the legal process from start to finish, always willing to answer questions and be fully transparent. They were able to secure a settlement for me, but what I valued more was how truly concerned they were about my health and well-being beyond my case. I would gladly recommend Candess & Jory to anyone looking for attorneys who will fight on their behalf and really care about their clients."

JOE, FORMER CLIENT

"I cannot recommend Jory Lange highly enough. When my father died, Jory was there and got an unbelievably great settlement (one of the highest settlements in America for for this type of case). I say this not only as a grateful client, but as a trial lawyer myself concentrating in personal injury with over 25 years experience. Jory has the knowledge, the skills, and the ability to handle big personal injury cases and my family and I are exceedingly pleased with the results and the justice that he obtained through very hard work for us. Salmonella – Quick Facts

Salmonella has a relatively quick period in which an exposed person begins to show signs and symptoms of the infection. This period can be about 6 hours and up to 3 days.

The symptoms of Salmonella are the typical symptoms that someone would easily assume are food poisoning. These include:

  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Vomiting

There can be the expression of additional symptoms in more severe cases. In cases such as these, bloody diarrhea, headache, chills, and body aches may also be experienced.

The majority of healthy adults will recover from the infection anywhere from 4 to 7 days. Those who are at a higher risk of severe infections, including the very young, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems (like organ transplant patients or those with cancer), can experience the infection for a longer period of time.

In many cases, including in healthy adults, it may take the body several months to return to normal bowel movements.
